In an article appearing in the online edition of Forbes Magazine, a leading U.S. business and financial publication, Dr. Winston Wong has proposed that the United States and Taiwan negotiate a Free Trade Agreement. With both the Taiwanese and U.S. economies still feeling the aftermath of the global recession, Dr. Wong writes, a free trade agreement would be a “win-win” proposition for both nations.
In the article, Wong cites the already extensive trade between the two countries. In 2010, Taiwan was America’s ninth largest trading partner, he writes, with the United States importing some $36 billion worth of Made in Taiwan goods and exporting some $26 billion in goods and services to Taiwan.
