On 20 November 2015, several Members of Parliament and other dignitaries held a dinner at the British Parliament’s House of Lords to celebrate the Queen’s naming of Dr. Winston Wong to the Order of the British Empire.
The Rt. Hon. The Lord James Borwick, a member of the House of Lords told attendees that having an Officer of the OBE in Taiwan was “tremendously important” for Taiwan-UK relations.
The Rt. Hon. The Lord John Eatwell, current President of Queen’s College, Cambridge, highlighted Dr. Wong’s important contribution to what he called a “biomedical revolution”, complimenting Dr. Wong’s foresight into providing philanthropic support in “just the area where academia needs it most” because “lives of the world can be transformed” by it.
Dr. Wong’s long-time friend Dr. Edwin J. Feulner noted that the fact that Her Majesty conferred the OBE on Dr. Wong was recognition not only of him but also of the very special relationship that Dr. Wong and so many in Taiwan and greater China have with the UK and Imperial.
Dr. Wong expressed his gratitude at being able to share this great honour with friends.
